    Found this thread late.
Might not be of interest to original author but may help others.
I put a climbing sling around the top yoke then one around the ceiling rafter in the work shop. (decent rope could also be used) then get heavy duty ratchet strap (make shure it can hold at least 150kg), hook both slings and crank up the ratchet. Its safe ,self leveling and very cheap. I have used this method for all front end works on all my bikes.
Hope thats of use to someone;)
Oh yeah, obviously do it on a paddock stand at the rear or it will swing around

Not got one of the skylifts but have the normal abba stand and picked up the newer front lift arm to go with it while at the show, they do look a nice bit of kit Dave if a lil pricey at first glance but should give a solid system to work on.
Best way to look at this is if you break the sky lift down into seperate parts it's a good deal price wise.
    1. Standard bike work lift (cheap import £250+) sealey £400 about same price as skylift.
    2. Abba superbike stand including front lift arm deal £135
    3. Bike can be moved around workspace if required!
    4. Only one bit of kit that can be dismantled to take up less space for storage IMHO priceless!

If I was to go back to having no stands or anything to carry out bike maintenance I would look long and hard at the skylift instead of my current collection of two rear paddock stands, two front paddock stands one headstock version, abba superbikes stand and an imported hydraulic bike lift! :D
