The Highways Dept. who Parking Services bounced me to have replied to my request for on on road parking with this shit:- I regret that currently there is no designated on street parking bay for use exclusively by motorcycles in Lincoln city centre. Space for on street limited waiting bays is in short supply and we would not consider converting any of these to motorcycle parking at this time and would expect motorcyclists to use these along with other vehicles. I will however bear in mind your request so that when future alterations to on street parking provision in conjunction with new development proposals arise, this may be considered. Now I'm not normally like a dog with a bone, but I'm a tax payer for fucks sake and I pay my road tax like every other shit on cunt out there, so why am I beeing fobbed off by some public sector careless pricks [rant mode off] So my reply to both departments is:- In light of there being no on road provision or consideration to allow secure, i.e. lockable parking for motorcycles, I must request that changes are made to signs at the off road cycle bays around Lincoln City Centre to include signage allowing motorcycles to park. I refer back to the cycle bay on Clasketgate where it crosses the High Street as an example (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/01/e5enyjez.jpg). There is currently no sign confirming exactly who can or indeed cannot use this bay. I would like both the Highways Department and Parking Services to liase with each other to confirm that that that these bays are useable for motorcycles.
Ahh, The Highways Department... I had a little set to with the Highways Department not so long ago. The geezer got very snotty when I got sarcastic with regard to his grasp as to just how dangerous mud deposited on an A road from a farm entrance was for motorcyclists. He referred me to an official publication illustrating what does and does not constitute acceptable. The relevant section pictured below. He didn't understand that you do actually fall off a motorcycle when faced with roads the illustration deems acceptable and that you'd even fall off a Landrover when faced with those deemed unacceptable. He did show a little bit of interest when I mentioned it completely covered a cycle path, because you must never upset those bastards, but otherwise he was a pompous, jumped up minor beureaucrat who's time I was wasting.
'Tis beyond belief! If 'THEY' really wanted to cut congestion they would allow us to park pretty much anywhere - even on pavements providing we're not causing an obstruction - as they do in France, Italy, Greece, Turkey etc etc... So much for being in the EU.
Ask yourself the question .What is a contribution to the town centres being on there arses ,besides out of town shopping centres it must be the continuing onslaught by vicious little pricks called Traffic wardens who are instructed from the elected council big wigs to milk as much money as they can off normal joes just trying to do some shopping .This has now back fired as perhaps over the last 10 years people have become wise to all the little tricks and either park sensibly or as now seen in every town centre they just don't go !Why is it essential to paint the side roads for miles out of down yellow?
There`s NO motorcycle parking bay`s in Lincoln city center....... That's disgraceful. Muffking,Keep at them.....
Update. Not exactly a good reply, but at least they spell it out that no cycle bays are safe to park in. In short, it's not the act of parking in a cycle bay that is on a foot path that gets you ticketed, it's the fact that the road ajacent to the bays have yellow lines or zigzags, which mean no parking on or ajacent to them. Damn!!! Their reply was:- I regret that the areas on footways provided for cyclists cannot be used by motorcycles. A traffic order to specifically designate an area for motorcycle parking would need to be made and the bay appropriately signed and marked for this purpose. As it stands the footways where these cycle parking facilities are generally adjacent to a double yellow line marking (or in the case of Silver St, a pedestrian crossing zig zag marking under which the double yellow lines exist). The restriction imposed by these lines applies to the back of the footway/property frontages and therefore parking by motorcycles will be liable for a penalty charge notice. I would advise therefore that you do not park on these footways. I am sorry I cannot be of further assistance but will bear the possible introduction of motorcycle parking in mind should an opportunity arise in the city centre.
I'm sure a man (ish) who wanders around all day putting pieces of paper on people's vehicles and receiving hate looks from their owners would love nothing more than to stick one on a nice shiny fireblade...
