With AA and waiting times excessive even when in the city. From what I hear all the rest are the same but better with than without. Most times needed when in the car and the only time for the bike was about three years ago and still waiting for recovery to turn up.
Also have repair insurance under same policy and for named vehicle they will cover cost of repair up to £500 (less £35 excess) and up to 5 times a year.

guys, i am an rac patrolman. if you want or need cover, i can do you a good rate. if you are joining just for the bike, the bonus is it covers you for the car as well, in any vehicle as a passenger or driver. trust me its well worth the money. the ammount of people i see broken down and then join is unbelievable. they all say that they should have done it earlier cos it costs you more by breaking down first and then joining. gents if i get a good enough response i,ll talk to the powers that be and attempt to get evryone the best deal i can

scooby, just a wise word mate. the freebie from mce is not worth the bollox. max recovery/tow mileage is 10 mile only, which equates to roadside cover only. i know this cos i am an rac patrolman and we have the mce contract. the ammount of bikers i attend and tell them they can only go 10 mile is huge. most bikers are normally well over ten miles from home wen the shit hits the fan. take out separate cover. i have posted a thread with imfo.

i got free cover with MCE once - did not read the small print nor was i told at the time..that it only covers me on a 10 mile radius from home..

I remember i had alternator issues and my battery died whilst i was riding on the M25 near 11pm...they refused to recover me as i was 12miles from home!

I use Britannia Rescue, they use agents, but normally show up between 30 mins and an hour, never had any problems with them, tbh with a bike, if its not a flat battery then all you want is a lift home.

I have paid UK cover with the RAC and use te cover provided with my bank account for European tours. Agree in that the free cover provided with insurance ain't worth jack in the majority of cases.

    Really?

Even the AA cover that cost £100 does not include EU cover - that's separate...?

I've just done an online RAC quote for Personal with recovery and this come in at £79.99 and thats with £30.01 online discount plus a free £50 fuel voucher. So I guess renewal will be £110 without the online discount. Seems a bit steep to me or is this the norm?

I've got AA cover for whatever I'm using in the UK, used it a few times, for a flat battery once (d'oh!) when I left the heated grips on, a smashed radiator, and twice for flat tyres, always turned up within the hour and sorted it easily enough.

For European trips I used to just buy an extension to that policy for about 30-40 quid. Few years back one of my mates blew up his 916 in the middle of France and they got it home and gave him a fiesta, brilliant for carrying our luggage for the rest of the trip!

Three years ago though the same bloke broke down in Belgium and had the Carole Nash policy, his bike took three weeks to get back from Europe to Manchester and he had to pillion it home on mine. Then we discovered that if the bike is of less than a certain value they won't recover it back to the UK but will give you an agreed value instead for it. Agreed in their favour obviously.

I now use the Bennetts policy as that has no age or value restriction on it, just gets your bike home however much of a dog it may be.

I USED to have AA cover... Had it for years. Never really used it. Suspended it a few times because I got cover with my car, and then with my bank account, but forgot to suspend it again one day a few years ago..

In June 2011 I had a flat tyre on the M4... Pulled into a service station on the A4 (Slough) and rang the AA... ('Service' station sold petrol and diesel only... And snacks... no proper stuff like tyre repair kits or anything). Anyway... AA said they'd be there in about an hour... Sat down to wait... (On the hottest day of the year)... 2 hours later, rang again... 20 minute away they said... Another hour and I rang again as I watched the guy in an AA van park across the road... He grabbed a coffee and legged it before I could catch him...

The short story is about 7 hours later, numerous phone calls and every excuse in the sun (Including there's noon in the area literally as I saw 2 vans drive past), I rang The AA and told them to stick their 'service' where the sun doesn't shine. Walked to the next service station and bought a can of tyre weld and rode home on that... Almost 2 years later I'm still bitter and wouldn't touch the AA if you paid for it... Besides which I get breakdown cover now from Honda courtesy of their 2 year service for new bikes, and also as part of my bank account...

Ok so I am interested in a deal also racman so let us know what you can do buddy ;)

As for MCE cover.... I have it and it does only cover mechanical breakdown so when I came off my bike I had no cover from them to help me get bike running or home so yeah not sure what it's actually worth??
