I had a test ride on a R1 late last year, And straight after rode my then 2016 CBR1000SP.
The R1 was a different riding experience to any other bike I have ridden, Just awesome.

Based on the test ride, My heart over ruled my head and bought my now R1M.

After owning Two blades, I wanted something a bit different, But keeping to sports bikes, (While my back is still holding up).
The Yami with the Crossplane engine just ticked my boxes.

The bike is like Marmite, You need to test ride the R1 and decide

Bloody hell! I'm reading too many good reviews for the R1. Perhaps I could also be influenced to try a 'different riding experience'.

Are you R1 owners saying the new one with the cross-plane engine is the best, or are say, 2015 or 16 equally as good? The biggest downfall for me (with greatest respect to current owners) is the frontal aesthetics, but as we all know, we generally have a trade-off when it comes to compromises.

All the R1 since 2015 have cross plane engine, and "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I love the front end look, a more track type look without huge lights in the way and the LED lights are so powerful, but yes, each to their own.

Right, it appears the M model has all the trickery (gimmickery?) of the Blade SP2.

Appears 2015s are fetching good money. Just not sure that my conscience would let me stray to Yammies.

So true, Simon. My ignorance set my sights on the MT 'Johnny 5' look. The R1 is good, as you say, in fact I think it actually surpasses the Blade!!

Erm, not necessarily. I've been there and am actually on the way back after my short stint with the C90!! I'm still fighting hard to restore credibility after that lark:rolleyes:!

Funnily enough I have just sold my RR9 and have ended up with a Yamaha MT-10 :-0

687 miles in and am loving it. Only real issue, is the fuel economy is poor no matter how the bike is ridden. Damn thing has a cheek to have an ECO mode on it

However I will be doing a decat and fitting a 3/4 system, Sprint filter and an ECU map once I have put some more miles on her.

If height is the issue, can you not just buy a lowering kit for it, obviously you will only know how the bike feels at the current height and not now how it feels lowered before buying?

If I was to lower it I wouldn’t buy an R1 I mean its no point it changes the bikes geometry too much and it won’t feel the same...Wish there was a place to get one for a day so I could really see how I find it..In the 20 minutes I was on it I did not have an issue ..but I only stopped like 3 times and it was controlled and gentle

If it’s the bike you would really like you should speak to the places who specialise in setting up suspensions. A lot of people have adjustments made to make their bikes more suitable to their height and weight which in turn makes the bike better to ride for them.. it’s worth a chat...a few on here maybe able to recommend a place or two
